We have also been promoting open culture to build a more equitable, accessible, and innovative world, and it is based on this rich experience that our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/about\/program-areas\/arts-culture\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Culture program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> now supports <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/2021\/05\/24\/announcing-our-20th-anniversary-better-sharing-campaign\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better sharing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of cultural heritage globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, we are proud at CC to announce the publication of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Towards-better-sharing-of-cultural-heritage-\u2014-A-Creative-Commons-Call-to-Action-to-Policymakers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><i>Towards better sharing of cultural heritage \u2014 A Creative Commons Call to Action to Policymakers<\/i><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a simple, concise, and accessible resource that aims to support policymakers with key arguments to reform policy \u2014 in particular copyright \u2014 to achieve better sharing of cultural heritage in the public interest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drafted by a small group of open culture advocates of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/network.creativecommons.org\/cc-copyright-platform-activity-fund\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative Commons Copyright Platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/network.creativecommons.org\/cc-openculture-platform\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Culture Platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Shanna Hollich (CC US), Emine Ozge Yildirim (KU Leuven), Maarten Zeinstra (CC Netherlands) and Brigitte V\u00e9zina (Director of Policy and Open Culture) \u2014 this resource:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">summarizes key takeaways from the 2022 CC policy paper <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/2022\/04\/04\/cc-publishes-policy-paper-titled-towards-better-sharing-of-cultural-heritage-an-agenda-for-copyright-reform\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Towards Better Sharing of Cultural Heritage \u2014 An Agenda for Copyright Reform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">applies the lessons learned during a CC <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/2022\/05\/17\/virtual-workshop-recap-towards-better-sharing-of-cultural-heritage\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">virtual workshop for policy experts and open culture enthusiasts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> held in May 2022, and;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">distills numerous conversations with and by the CC open culture community held between June and October 2022, as well as direct document input gathering ideas, feedback and real-life examples.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This publication offers a basis for a shared vision on better sharing and makes a call for five actions:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACTION 1: Protect the public domain from erosion<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACTION 2: Reduce the term of copyright protection<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACTION 3: Legally allow necessary activities of cultural heritage institutions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACTION 4: Shield cultural heritage institutions from liability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACTION 5: Ensure respect, equity, and inclusivity<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Towards-better-sharing-of-cultural-heritage-\u2014-A-Creative-Commons-Call-to-Action-to-Policymakers.pdf\"><b>Read the full document &gt;<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ll be presenting the publication at Open Nederland\u2019s Public Domain Day 2023 on January 13, 2023, at the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.
